The Best At Home Workouts

Last year I stopped going to gym and started working out at home and doing pilates classes. I really started dreading going to the gym, I felt myself getting bored with my routines and I felt like my body had plateaued a bit. Most days I would spend an hour at the gym with 25 minutes of cardio mixed in but I found myself taking a lot of breaks and constantly looking at the clock to see if my hour was up. I knew I had to change things up both physically and mentally. I decided to stop my typical routine and sign up for Melissa Wood Health workouts, her workouts can be done at home and within a short time frame. I was skeptical at first but that quickly changed.

Written By Kayla Seah

Her workouts are mostly pilates focused and a combination of 10, 15 or 25 minutes. I tried them out for a couple weeks and was loving them but I did have a sense of panic, shouldn't I be working out for longer? Shouldn't I be doing squats? Well the simple answer here is no. Since her workouts are shorter, you want to get the most out of them, which makes you really focus on every single move, something I was totally not doing at the gym! Also, there are no real breaks, no time to check your phone, you just power through each combination and you are done. Her method with movements and positions gives you these long lean lines without bulking up, something I've been wanting to achieve but not understanding how to. Now, I didn't notice this over night and the main thing with her method is that you must be consistent with it to see results!!! I will do her workouts 5-6 times a week, some days I combine combinations to have longer flows (40 mins) and some days I can only squeeze in 20 minutes, but the point is I'm showing up every day and with that comes results.

We all need to get over the idea that you have to be in the gym for an hour and that you have to do cardio every single day, these are such old school rules and most importantly we don't all want to bulk up like this. Melissa's workouts have given me the body I've always wanted and I now look forward to working out every single day! Her flows do use some props that are very useful and inexpensive, I've linked all my favorites below.

Other things I do from time to time:

- Take pilates reformer classes (same method as Melissa Wood Health, so I'm staying consistent with the right movements)

- I do like other workout apps such as Kira Stokes 'Get Stoked'. Her cardio series are amazing for a good sweat session and her other series are all about small focused movements too!

- Megan Roup has a great workout app called The Sculpt Society, I love her approach to cardio with her dance series.

Test them all out and see what works best for you and your body!
