My Morning Ritual

Written By Kayla Seah

I’m a person of ritual. I like my mornings to myself and even if I’m incredibly exhausted when that alarm goes off, I take solace in looking forward to breakfast and those moments where everything’s still calm while I’m sipping my coffee. I tend to have the same breakfast every day, mixing it up with different elements to keep things interesting. Here are a few of my tips for starting your mornings off right and gearing up to take on the world. We all know the chaos of the real world lies just moments beyond your final drop of black gold. Speaking of which: yes, I love my coffee in the morning, but it’s not the first thing I have…

1. I make sure to drink one full glass of either water or lemon water before I have my caffeine  fix (sometimes I like to take it up a notch). It gives your organs a quick workout and adds a little horsepower to your metabolism. After that, I immediately push the ‘on’ switch to my espresso machine.

2. About 90% of the time I eat plain soy yogurt. I really like the taste of it and it tends to be a bit lighter than regular yogurt.

3. Fresh fruit is my saviour. I can’t get enough fruit in the morning; it’s so refreshing and wakes me right up. I always have a banana because it keeps me full longer and I usually mix it with seasonal berries. Right now I’m addicted to the local strawberry man’s berry-shaped shack, which showers us with fresh finds from the field daily. I swear I’m at his stand every few days buying another kilo.

4. I top my breakfast with my homemade gluten-free granola; I find gluten-free oats easier to digest in the morning. I’m constantly changing my granola recipe, but you can find my classic one here. I promise to update it soon — the one I make now has tons of chia seeds in it (more of that obsession here).
