Our Stay At Sao Lourenco do Barrocal

Our Stay At Sao Lourenco Do Barrocal

Right before fashion week started, we took a quick trip to Portugal to experience one of the hotels I have wanted to stay at for quite some time! I had read a lot about Sao Lourenco do Barrocal and it really seemed like the best place to really be able to shut off from our chaotic schedule. The hotel sits about 2 hours outside of Lisbon in the countryside of Monsaraz, there isn’t much to do in the surrounding area but that really wasn’t an issue at all. We had no real reason to ever want to leave the hotel property and let me explain why…

Sao Lourenco do Barrocal has been in the same family for over 200 years, it use to be a small farming village that has been brought back to life as a luxry hotel. I use the word luxury lightly, as nothing is super fancy or over done on the property, everything is tasteful and has purpose. The entire hotel is surrounded by olive trees, vineyards and their own gardens, where they grow all their produce! Which was one of the main reasons it sparked my interest. Everything is so peaceful and quite on the property and things move at a much more gentle pace. We stayed in one of the farm rooms, which was incredibly spacious with a private balcony. As you start to understand the property, it really does begin to feel like you're staying in a little village.

Overall, this place was a dream vacation for us! You can move at your own pace, the staff are so incredibly kind, the wine is impeccable and the food is so fresh. There was plenty of things that kept us entertained when the sun became too hot, including a visit to the Susanne Kaufmann Spa which was just a cherry of top of the relaxation we already felt. You can also horseback ride, hot air ballon, enjoy a picnic or bike ride on the property. I highly recommend staying at Sao Loruenco do Barraocal if you ever find yourself looking to go to Portugal, it's a magical and unique place that you can only fully understand until you experience it yourself.

Tips:

We went in August when it was extremely hot and dry, we didn't mind it all but I would love to try September or October!

We rented a car from Lisbon Airport (use Amoita, they don't have lines and they just meet with you with your car)

We did visit the closest town Monsaraz on our last day which was a quick 10 minute car ride. It's totally worth seeing, it has amazing views and cute local shops.

The theory of a picnic was really cute until we got covered with ants, apparently it's much better to have one when it's not dry season!
