New Chapter
I’m so excited to wake up this Monday morning, which is quite unusual for me to say since Mondays are typically the start of another long and stressful week for me. But this one is different. Let’s go back to the start before I tell you why today is so special.
Most of you probably don’t know that I’ve been working a full-time job aside from Not Your Standard. For the past year, I’ve been at Berlin-based homeware company Urbanara as a stylist and imagery coordinator. Trying to balance the blog and a full-time job, the gym, a social life, and a relationship has been quite the challenge to say the least. I felt like if I lost control it would all fall apart, which is why I had to stick to a strict schedule and never lose focus on the end goal.
I would normally work all day while using my lunch breaks to shoot outfit posts, then head to the gym to clear my head, come home and edit photos, and prep tomorrow’s post until I fell asleep at 1:00 am. Get up and repeat. I know this isn’t the worst schedule ever, but to be completely honest it took its toll at times. I felt like my weekends were what I lived for because it was my time to feel inspired again, create new posts during the day, and spend time with my guy. The balancing act of two jobs finally hit a point where I had to make a decision: which way was I going to go?
I hated pushing back deadlines with people I was collaborating with and cancelling meetings because something at work came up; I began to realize how long my to-do list was getting and it started feeling like a routine instead of what is used to. I always knew I was doing everything for a reason – nothing has been more rewarding than my blog – and I love creating a place where people can feel inspired, learn something, or escape their lives for just a minute. This is the exact thing that motivates me, where my passion lies true.
So… I left my full-time job and today marks the first day of working at the Not Your Standard office! I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter in my life. I’m so grateful to all my readers and followers who continue to support me and show interest in every post. You are the reason I was able to go with my gut and take this leap of faith. I can’t wait to take the blog in a new direction while still staying committed to its character. I could go on forever but I will leave you with a quote that touches close to my heart:
“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.”
